COMMON
SENSE RELATIONSHIP ADVICE
"People
often stay in bad relationships without using common
sense to tell them to get out. I am here to make sure
you use common sense." - Monte Jamison, Relationship
Guide
You
see it all the time. Couples that are incompatible
stay together. But they fuss and fight all the time.
So why would you be in a relationship that you are
not happy in? Common sense tells you to get out, but
you remain committed to it in an unhealthy way.
I have a young neighbor (a couple
years out of high school) who argues LOUDLY with his
girlfriend on his cell phone on his front porch...
all the time. Every day, every night, they argue over
the phone. I have never seen this girl because they
both live with their parents, but I know her name,
her mother’s name, where she works, the kind
of car she drives, and the names of all the guys she
allegedly cheats with. How do I know all this information?
Because he is outside yelling into his cell phone
as he argues with her.
One thing that I noticed is that every
heated conversation they have always ends up with
him yelling phrases like “you don’t love
me!”, “you treat me like dirt”,
“I don’t know why I continue to go through
this with you”, and “are you saying you
don’t want to be with me anymore?!”. This
is where common sense should kick in. If you are in
a relationship that has you arguing, fussing, and
fighting every day and night, and the words that repeatedly
come out of your mouth confirm that the person on
the other end of the phone is treating you badly and
doesn’t want to be with you, common sense should
tell you that that is not the relationship for you.
So
for a healthy and happy relationship, take this common
sense relationship advice: If you are constantly arguing
with your mate, listen to what you are saying from
a third person’s perspective. If you hear yourself
constantly reiterating that you are in an un-loving,
un-caring, un-faithful relationship, it is time to
move on. This is not the relationship for you.
